Starting with a public performance, art making, and a kick-off celebration, this free, family-friendly event hosted by Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership was part of Arts Across America, an initiative of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and many community organizations. Morning festivities included live music,
opportunities to create art, and the unveiling of two public art sculptures. Residents will also had the chance to share feedback on upcoming
improvements to Quinby Park.

Afternoon

A representative group of arts, government, business, and civic leaders came
together with national advocates to develop strategies for amplifying revitalization
efforts and mobilizing the Mahoning Valley’s cultural assets. A lunch conversation led by David Brooks, as part of the Aspen Institute’s Weave: The Social Fabric Project, began the session. A Strategic Doing workshop led by Ed Morrison and the Purdue Agile Strategy Lab examined how collaboration can support economic
development, and guide conversations toward key impact goals for the region.

The Mahoning River represents the connective tissue of the region, powering the steel industry in the last century, uniting the towns along its banks, and fueling new promise for the future. Community members joined Yo-Yo Ma for a special gathering on the river, featuring local performances and conversation about what culture means in the Mahoning Valley, and how it can help to revitalize our community.
