A member of Las Cafeteras, Hector Flores grew up in the Pan-Asian – Chicano neighborhoods of San Gabriel Valley and East LA.  He graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a degree in Chicana/o Studies and worked as an organizer for 10 years in New Jersey, South LA, East Los Angeles.
